What Is Professional Cabinet Painting?
Why sprayed enamels outperform DIY paint jobs
DIY brush-and-roller jobs often leave brush marks, orange peel, weak adhesion, dust nubs, and premature chipping – especially around pulls, dishwashers, and sinks. Our kitchen cabinet painters use pro equipment, premium coatings, and the right film build so your finish resists stains, moisture, and daily wear.

Cabinet Painting FAQs
Answers to common questions about refinishing
Will the finish look sprayed and smooth?
Can you fill oak grain (and other wood textures)?
Absolutely. We can grain-fill open-pore species like oak before priming if you want that modern, super-smooth look. It adds a prep step (time and cost), but it dramatically reduces visible texture under light. For maple, MDF, and many veneers, a standard sand/prime is often enough for a sleek finish.
How durable is the finish, and how do we care for it?
With proper prep and premium coatings, your finish cures hard, washable, and stain-resistant. Light use is typically fine after 24–48 hours; full cure develops over several days. Clean with a soft cloth and mild soap and avoid abrasives and harsh chemicals. Our 2-year transferable cabinet finish warranty backs your project against peeling or bubbling, and we keep your colors on file for touch-ups.
Can you change hardware (pulls, knobs, hinges) during painting?
Yes. We can fill old holes and re-drill for new pulls/knobs, and we’ll reinstall existing hardware or swap in new sets you provide. Hinge upgrades (e.g., soft-close) are often possible; some styles require new cup holes or plates. We’ll review options during the estimate so everything fits and lines up cleanly.
How long does cabinet painting take, and what’s the disruption like?
Most kitchens finish in 3–5 days depending on size and repairs. Day one is setup and protection; the middle days are prep, priming, and sprayed finishing; the final day is cure time, reassembly, and alignment. You’ll get daily updates and a tidy jobsite—we mask thoroughly so the rest of the home stays usable.
What surfaces can be painted, and which should be replaced?
We paint solid wood, MDF, and most veneers in sound condition. Severely water-damaged panels or delaminating thermofoil are poor candidates and may need replacement. We’ll inspect doors/boxes, note any compromised areas, and recommend the best path to a long-lasting result.
What paints/products do you use? Are they low-odor?
We specify premium cabinet enamels and lacquers (Benjamin Moore / Sherwin-Williams) chosen for adhesion, leveling, and durability. We can use low-odor, low-VOC systems when needed, and we’ll recommend the right sheen (often satin or semi-gloss) for cleanability without glare.
How much does cabinet painting cost? What affects price?
Cost depends on the number of doors/drawers, grain-fill requests, repairs (e.g., water damage), hardware changes, and color shifts (dark↔light). You’ll receive a clear, written scope and price after an in-home review. For ideas, browse our Project Gallery, then request a free, firm estimate from our kitchen cabinet painting team.

What Homeowners Are Saying
Fresh kitchens. Happy customers.
This is my second job with Expert. They did a great job on my exterior a few years ago so when it was time to have my kitchen cabinets done there was only one place to go! Thanks to Brett, John, and team my kitchen looks like an entirely new space!
I have worked with a ton of contractors over the years and definitely had some poor experiences. Working with Expert is quite the opposite for a variety of reasons: Brett is simple and clear to work with; responsive, fair, and honest. John is a fantastic job supervisor, and the rest of the team is efficient and kind. Most importantly they are all respectful of my home. The prep work they do to ensure they keep it neat and contained (fumes, dust, etc) is next level and I have tons of appreciation for that!! We also ran into some unexpected needs – had to have two ceilings to paint due to nail pops and cracks. They hustled to work it into the project and still finished on time.
This team also has a tool in their box that I haven’t seen in competitors that quoted my project: April the colorist. April is a color consultant that will arrive with her color deck and help you weed out the wrong shades to ensure you choose the perfect shade. In both of my projects I had narrowed to a few but her help and feedback was invaluable to choosing the exact colors I needed.
As I paid them on their way out yesterday I was already talking to John about next projects! See you soon Expert Painting!!

Great experience from start to finish. Brett is easy to work with, responsive, and communicates clearly. The crew was friendly, professional, and did a wonderful job. The prep work was top notch, so was the quality of their work. Would definitely use them again!
